Professional, publishing-quality editing and proofreading services.
We are a small team of highly qualified, experienced proofreaders and copy-editors, and members of the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading. We are able to assist with fiction manuscripts, academic materials, marketing copy and a wide range of other documents.
We offer four levels of editing/proofreading:
Proofreading – A thorough check for spelling, grammar, punctuation and syntax errors. This may include minor formatting ‘tweaks’ and checking page numbering and any cross-references in the material. Proofreading is carried out twice on every document.
Copy-editing – This level of editing addresses word use, language and style, checking for repetitions and inconsistencies, and basic fact-checking. This also includes a two-stage proofread for spelling, punctuation and grammar.
‘Proof-editing’ – A blend of copy-editing and proofreading, ‘proof-editing’ is ideal for manuscripts which have already been self-edited and just need a little professional polish. We will carry out a two-stage proofread whilst also checking for consistency, word choice and language use. This is the most popular choice for fiction authors looking to prepare their manuscript for submission to an agent or publisher.
Structural/developmental editing – This is the most in-depth level of editing and usually applies to fiction, although it can sometimes be useful in non-fiction work. Structural editing evaluates the manuscript or document as a whole, addressing issues such as plot and character development, dialogue, flow, pace and overall structure of the work. This is a complex area of editing so more time will need to be allowed than the options above.
